Editorial Direction

$1,500.00

The Editorial Direction offering is an Editorial service for writers, artists, and authors who need more than feedback alone. It is designed for projects that would benefit from thoughtful, hands-on guidance as they move through revision and development.

Where Manuscript Feedback offers a high-level editorial assessment, Editorial Direction is a deeper collaborative process. It is for clients who want help shaping the work, clarifying what it is becoming, and making stronger revision decisions with sustained editorial support.

This offering is especially useful for projects that have strong material but need further structure, refinement, and development before submission, production, or publication.

What this is

Editorial Direction is for writers and artists who want an experienced editorial partner during a key stage of development.

It is especially useful if you are:

  • revising a manuscript and want stronger editorial guidance

  • trying to shape a book more intentionally

  • unsure how to develop the work beyond a first round of feedback

  • preparing a manuscript for submission or publication

  • looking for a more engaged editorial process without entering a full line edit or copyedit

What I can help with

Depending on the project, Editorial Direction may include:

  • manuscript structure and sequencing

  • developmental guidance

  • revision priorities

  • project positioning

  • tone, voice, and cohesion

  • identifying strengths and areas needing development

  • shaping the work toward submission or publication readiness

  • clarifying the project’s larger arc and direction

What’s included

One editorial review of your manuscript or written project
A close, engaged reading of the material you submit.

A completed intake form at checkout
This provides context about the project, your goals, and the type of support you are seeking.

A written editorial response
You will receive a developed editorial letter outlining strengths, concerns, revision priorities, and recommendations.

Light in-manuscript comments where useful
This may include selective comments directly in the manuscript to clarify editorial observations, but does not constitute a full line edit or copyedit.

One 60-minute editorial call
A focused conversation to discuss the work, the feedback, and your next revision steps.

One follow-up review of revised material
Includes a second look at up to 25 revised pages or 5,000 words after the initial feedback process.

Limited email follow-up
Includes one round of follow-up questions by email after delivery of the feedback.

Scope

This service covers manuscripts of up to 100 pages or 20,000 words. Longer manuscripts, heavily developmental projects, or multi-stage editorial work will be quoted separately.

Who it’s for

This offering is a strong fit for:

  • writers developing a poetry manuscript

  • authors working on fiction, nonfiction, or hybrid work

  • artists preparing a text-based project for publication

  • independent authors seeking deeper editorial support before publishing

  • clients who want a more collaborative revision process

Best for

This is best for clients who are asking:

  • How do I strengthen this manuscript?

  • What needs revision, and in what order?

  • How do I shape the book more clearly?

  • What is the strongest version of this project?

  • What kind of editorial support do I need before moving forward?

Deliverable

You will receive a developed editorial response, direct guidance on revision priorities, and a follow-up review process designed to help move the work forward in a more intentional way.

Delivery timeline

Initial feedback is delivered within 30 days of receiving the manuscript and confirming scope. Follow-up review timing will be scheduled after revised material is submitted.

What this does not include

Editorial Direction does not include full copyediting, proofreading, formatting, design, submissions, or production. It is a developmental editorial service centered on shaping and strengthening the work.

After booking

The intake form is completed at checkout. Clients should send any relevant materials to ashley@obscura-agency.net. I will follow up by email within 48 hours with next steps, including instructions for sending materials and scheduling details.

This offering can stand on its own or lead into a larger editorial or publishing collaboration.
